Gift Baskets to be raffled at banquet to benefit Scholarship Fund……how can you help?

Did you know…….$5 of every membership fee goes into the Nathalie Price Scholarship Fund. Fifty percent of any excess funds from tournaments at private clubs also goes into that fund.   To date, over 120 scholarships have been awarded since OSWGA inception!

Six deserving young women each received $1000 as this year’s recipients of the Nathalie Price Scholarship.   In the past, our gift basket raffle has been very successful in raising funds. We will be raffling gift baskets at this year’s banquet and need your help!

It would be great if you would donate a basket to help insure this fund continues to grow! Why not get together as a group from your club or league and put one together. We will then help you arrange pick up or drop off. Baskets will be on view at the banquet where you can purchase raffle tickets to try and win your favorite!

To arrange drop off or pick up contact Carolyn Brown at chezcab99@yahoo.com

Thanks!!

Election News………………

The following candidates are running for office:

President

Pat Dickson

Treasurer

Luanne Googins

There is only 1 candidate in both the offices of President and Treasurer resulting in unopposed candidate races. Article II, Section 3 allows for a voice vote when this is the case eliminating the costs associated with a paper ballot election. Per OSWGA by-laws, write-in candidates and nominations from the floor are not allowed. An absentee vote cast in this race will not change the outcome.

Good luck to the Rhode Island Endicott Team!!!

Good luck to the 2016 Rhode Island Endicott Team!!

This year’s team is made up of OSWGA members Sandra Harper, Leony Hartig, Nancy Diemoz,  Laura Parziale, Annie Corio & Jackie Booth.  Completing the team are Captain Kibbe Reilly, Angela Brunero, Brenda Sabbag, Leann Cesario, Lauren Collins, Robin Catley, Kim Schold & Lisa Ferrara.

In 1926, the first Endicott Cup tournament was held at Hartford Golf Club (CT) as a 36-hole stroke play competition between members of the Connecticut and Massachusetts Women’s Golf Associations. The Endicott Cup was presented by Priscilla Maxwell Endicott for the winner of the competition. The plan was that the first person to win the trophy three times would retire the cup. Edith Baker won the Cup in 1926 and 1928 and requested that the trophy be perpetual, with the winner keeping it in her possession for the year.

In 1929, Massachusetts (whose membership included Rhode Island) and Connecticut played the Kittredge Cup as the third day match play competition for the nine low gross players from each team. In 1930, Rhode Island joined as a third team and the Kittredge Cup was retired and replaced with the Tri-State Trophy.

Today, Endicott Cup competitors play 36-hole stroke play over two days. The seven low gross and seven low net players (plus an alternate from each state for the gross and net teams) compete in the Tri-State and Eaton Cup team matches on the third day of the event.

Stroke play starts tomorrow at Tumble Brook Country Club in Bloomfield, CT. You can follow daily scores and updates on this page.

Day 1 & 2 results click here. Laura Parziale had 2 great rounds missing a playoff for the Endicott Trophy by 1 stroke!

Day 3 Match Play…the rain held off but windy conditions and tricky greens made for tough play! Rhode Island’s gross team placed 3rd & the net team placed 2nd. Click here for match play results
