COVID-19 Message from the President and Board of Director’s

FROM THE PRESIDENT AND BOARD OF OSWGA

We hope everyone is well and doing all they can to stay safe and healthy.

Please read below regarding changes to the 2020 Season due to COVID-19

SCHEDULE CHANGES – In light of the current state restrictions due to COVID-19 , and with the expectation that these restrictions may continue through April, we have made the decision to postpone and reschedule both of our April tournaments until the fall.

  • Lake of Isles – Originally April 20, rescheduled to Tuesday October27
  • Blackstone National – Originally April 27, rescheduled to Monday, October 19

We will evaluate our May tournaments over the coming weeks and send out an update in the middle of April. We may modify certain aspects of our current formats – including switching to tee times or eliminating lunch if it allows us to get playing sooner. This is dependent on state restrictions still in place and course cooperation.

PLAYER OF THE YEAR / PLAYER’S CHAMPIONSHIP – We have decided to waive the April 1st eligibility deadline for 2020.  Many golfers are currently uncertain as to where they will be living and playing golf this summer and we want to allow as much flexibility as possible. You still need to be a member of OSWGA to earn points, and they will not be awarded retroactively, but you can join when you come back to Rhode Island or are ready to play when we are back on track.

In recent weeks, we’ve all felt the change to our daily lives. In times like this, we want to stay connected to the people that we care about, and playing golf with our friends can be an important way to connect. As state restrictions allow, consider playing at those golf courses that have updated safety protocols to keep your friendships active. For those who are not yet in a position to get out there, consider calling your friends or use a free video conference site like ZOOM, to stay connected and engaged.

If you have any questions, comments, or suggestions please reach out to me or any Board member. We will do all we can to get our season underway, once it is deemed safe and responsible to do so.

Best wishes and stay safe,
Pat
